Tough times for a small business.
Is sim racing too niche?….maybe, or perhaps that’s the mission that Race Mode should be tackling, after all making the excitement of motorsport accessible for all was the reason Race Mode started in the first place.
The past couple of months have been difficult, with website traffic down 30% and bookings down 25%. The cost of running the business remains as high as ever. Whatever has changed hasn’t just changed for us, plenty of other businesses are finding it difficult as well. We are passionate about keeping a dedicated sim racing centre open in North Devon and will be looking for ways to make sure that happens. Venues such as Race Mode are normally in cities or larger towns with bigger populations, we always knew we had our work cut out for us to make it successful in North Devon. But we know that North Devon has plenty of petrolheads, plenty of racers and plenty of people who enjoy testing themselves on our cutting-edge simulators.
It's not all bad.
Over recent months we have started a loyalty programme, hosted our biggest competition so far, expanded our team, started working with Kaos Detailing to bring their fantastic range of products to Race Mode customers, kicked off Race Your Own Championship and started dabbling in the world of YouTube. We have a lot to be pleased about, but the one thing that’s missing is consistent levels of bookings. This is where you come in! If you have an idea that you would like to see brought to Race Mode then get in touch and let us know. We would welcome the feedback and we are always interested to hear your thoughts. A social motorsport community is what we want to build here, a place where its ok to be fast or slow, somewhere that it’s ok to talk about motorsport and cars. For the most part that community is already growing but we would like it to be bigger and better!
So, what’s planned for Race Mode?
Monthly fastest lap competitions with a different car and track each month. We have the next few of these planned and we are certain you will enjoy seeing how you match up to other customers and how you can push your own limits. It would be great to get some prizes for these competitions when they become bigger.
As mentioned above, we have started dabbling with some more YouTube content, hopefully this will help us showcase our events and simulators to a wider audience. It’s a scary prospect to be the face of Race Mode, after all its more of a face for radio! 😊
There will be a return to our regular race nights too, sticking with the classic 8 driver format, we are continually looking for new cars and tracks to bring some variety to these races.
The first of the Race Your Own Championship series should be starting soon. If you want to start your own with your group of friends, family or colleagues then let us know and we will help you get it arranged.
